About

On April 29, 2006 I became the outsourcing nightmare that haunts the dreams of Computer Science students and career programmers alike. I had accepted a significant salary cut and moved to a software development center in the Czech Republic. The sole goal of this center was to cut the costs of a major U.S. internet company.

There are many ways to protect your job from being outsourced. One of these ways – and probably the lease popular – is to preempt the outsourcing of your job by becoming the very low-cost developer that threatens your position today.

My life has since gone through radical changes. Most of these changes were positive, while some were decidedly negative. All of them were interesting. I believe it worthwhile to document some of these experiences, so that others can get a glimpse of our new “flat world,” and perhaps be better prepared to take advantage of it.
